Hi all!
While at my parent's house visiting for the holidays, they watch this show called the big bang theory. I watched it with them as I usually like comidy over most of the other stuff they watch that are usually very violent or crude in nature.
Big bang had some moments but generally, I laughed.
I thought about getting into the show as I think I saw they have it on Netflix. However, can anyone give me a basis of where to start? The plot? characters?
Thanks so much any help is appreciated!
The big bang theory is about some friends who are all nerds and comic book/sifi fans. There are science things thrown in here and there but honestly it's mostly common themes like friendship, work, family, lately lots of love and romance stuff and lots and lots of sex jokes! I'll try and describe the characters in my point of view.
You have Sheldon, one of the most interesting in the crew. He's arogant, germaphobic, socially awkward (all of his friends are but he's the most severely so,) insecure and just friggin anoying! Very animated in his speech and gestures.
Leonard is Sheldon's roommate. The loyal friend tries to fit into the rest of society, mainly with this particular young lady. There's more, but that's all I have to say about him. moving on!
Raaj can't talk to women. He's alright around his buddies though.
Howard lives with his mom and is your typical sex deprived pervert.
Penny is the big boobed neighbor. She's not a nerd though, but has the people and street knowledge to help out the guys, and leonard has the hots for her lol.
I suggest you start at the beginning. In later seasons episodes follow a story line plus I personally like the earlier seasons better.
start with season 1, episode 1, it will tell you all you need to know about the
show and its characters. Then, move on to season 1 episode two, and you'll
learn more. Rinse and repeat.
Blind Mice has it, if you like your shows described.
Do they? That's good to know. I agree with what's been said here. Start at the beginning. The characters have evolved in many ways over the seasons. Also, I don't know about everyone else, but the last couple seasons, though I've enjoyed them, haven't had the same feel. Actually so far this season's not too bad.
I definitely agree it's best to start at the beginning to get to know the characters and see how they and their relationships change over the years.
In my opinion, the funniest character is one we never actually see on screen. For the first several years of the show Howard lived with his mother. We always heard her voice off camera as she would yell at Howard. She's got one of those voices that makes her sound like a three-pack-a-day smoker for about 50 years, and her lines and back and forth with Howard are hilarious.
Sheldon seems to be the only character who isn't obsessed with getting laid.
Raaj can't talk to women unless he is drunk. Then in later seasons, we meet this girl named Amy. not going to spoil it for you, but she's another strange one. The woman who plays her, actually got a degree in neuroscience or something of that nature from UCLA, so I've got a feeling she's, like, one of the few people who actually understands her script. In real life, the guys who play Leonard, Raaj, Sheldon and Howard aren't actually into all the nerdy stuff their characters enjoy.
Yes, Howard's mother is definitely a laugh. agree with others who said watch it from the beginning.
Yeah def..will watch from the start of the show. I didn't know that about blind mice..very interesting! A tv show described..that would be cool! Thanks!
TBT is the only current Sitcom I like. Howard's mom was hilarious, especially when their nerdy friend Stewart moved in with her and they implied their relationship was more than room mate/landlord. Unfortunately, she died suddenly a couple of years ago. It's still a good show, though, and they rip on some stereotypes and generally the plots are good, though the constant sex humor can get a bit old sometimes.
yeah, that type of humor can get old. I tried watching 2 broke girls..I've seen a couple episodes but they're just to odd..or, the show could've been called moms..the show about the alcoholics
Funny stuff. Had a big crush on Kaley Cuoco for a while LOL. My favorite episode is still the one where Raaj got an IPhone and apparently fell in love with Siri. Haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
Yeah, that one with Siri was really funny.
My favorite episode was a Christmas episode. Sheldon hated that his friends wanted to have a gift exchange because if someone gave him something he was obligated to buy gifts for them too. The scene in the department store where he was picking out possible gifts for Penny and kept asking the sales lady questions about baskets of bath and body products really cracked me up. Then he finally decided to buy all three sizes of gift baskets saying that his choice of which one to give her would depend on the size and estimated cost of whatever she gave him and then he could take the other two back to the store. When she gave him an autographed napkin from Leonard Nemoy from the restaurant where she works, he was so overcome with joy he gave her all three baskets,, and then, an ultimate sacrifice for Sheldon, he hugged her.
LOL.
I love the big bang theory and I've watched from episode 1 go right up to this current season. I love all the characters but listening to Bernadette its kind of annoying because her voice is to squeaky for me. I don't know why the producers didn't let her use her real voice in the first place. The person who played howard's mom died maybe about 2 years ago. I love the episode with the I-phone and the one when raj was day dreaming about bernadette
Is that not her real voice? I didn't know that.
no it isn't her real voice. they made her pitch her voice high so when she yells at howard she sounds a bit like his mom. Her real voice sounds much more nicer than that squeaky voice she does
Good for her for being able to pull that off consistently. The writer in me wonders in that case whether it was always intended for the two to get together, because her voice has been like that all along.
you could go on youtube and type in big bang theory cast members and you would hear her real voice. sounds very nice
